JOURNAL #8
The writer wants to know what causes some of the people that are involved in the rock and roll industry to inflict pain on themselves. The author uses various books about a number of different musicians and rock and roll itself. Many people attempt to establish their identity by trying to create or start new trends. They want to be remembered as the first or the originator or something. They may even try to put a different “spin” on something that already exists. This may pertain to fashion, music, athletics, academics or anything else that may attract spectators.

JOURNAL ENTRY# 7
The writer is trying to find out the processes that editors use to perform their work and to understand why they make the changes they make when they are proof reading, revising, and improving the writing of others.
The researchers conducted a case study to get the answers to their questions. Their subjects were three experienced editors and three less experienced editors to determine if their style of editing correlated with their experience. The subjects were further divided on their view of what revising is. Some took a normative perspective, while others took a communicational perspective. The data was organized into tables.
Unlike professional editors usually don’t read to grasp their assignment because they receive it almost orally from their clients.

Dear parents
Dear mom and dad,
I am sure by now you have heard or seen me in the media auctioning off my virginity. I know that you are disappointed in me, but let me explain my reasoning for doing this

JOURNAL ENTRY #3
When Bartholomae says “invent the university” he means making the university their own and allow themselves to reflect the university or their specific area of study. He also suggests that in order to become “insiders”, one must start programs, instill ideas in their peers, and try to make a difference in their university.
I feel that Bartholomae favors the content of “White Shoes” even though the author does not use advanced writing techniques.

JOURNAL ENTRY #2
Claim
This claim of this argument is prostitution should be legalized.
Data
Legalizing prostitution would help solve the problems of overpopulated jails, and the spreading of HIV/AIDS and other STIs.
Warrant/Backing / Grounds
Taxpayers are spending large amounts of money on non-violent prostitutes that are being held in jails. According to the Future of Freedom Foundation, "In Newark, New Jersey, the estimate is that close to 60 percent of all prostitutes carry the AIDS virus. Yet, in the relatively 'free market' of Nevada, where prostitution is legal, not one [as of 1989] of the state-licensed prostitutes has ever tested positive for AIDS."
It would be mandatory for prostitutes to be tested for STIs, forcing them to have safe sex so they could keep their jobs.
Rebuttal
What if regulations aren’t followed?
Qualifiers
Prostitution should be legalized, if it is regulated.

JOURNAL ENTRY #1
This argument claims that America’s attitude towards homosexuality has changed over time. The article explains that demographics and contemporary American ideology are responsible for these changing viewpoints. It further suggests that attitudes about a certain issue reflect a change in behavior towards that issue. This article is trying to convince the reader that Americans have become more accepting of the idea of homosexuality. This is a claim of fact. The author uses logos to support the claim.
